When we started The Will King Foundation in 2018 my friend, Lea, asked me, "Do you want to make a small impact on a few or a big impact on many?" I said, "both." Over the past two years we have made a big impact on the lives of six families, from all over the world, by sponsoring heart treatment for children through Patrons of the Hearts. We will continue to sponsor children because we believe that every child deserves a chance at life and we can be a small part of giving them that chance through sponsorships. But we aren't stopping there. In an effort to make an impact on many, we set the goal to establish the Ettedgui-King Endowment to fund a professorship in international pediatric cardiology at Wolfson Children's Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. This fund will help ensure a designated pediatric cardiologist has guaranteed time to commit to the care of international patients locally through Wolfson's Cardiac ICU and through maintaining partnerships abroad.
Patrons of the Hearts was founded in 2005 by Dr. Jose Ettedgui and his wife, Hilda, in partnership with Wolfson Children's Hospital and the University of Florida Pediatric Cardiovascular Center at Jacksonville. Patrons of the Hearts provides life-saving heart treatment for children in developing countries without access to the care they need.
